Split or mini-central?
A split unit (mazgan eili) cools one room: cheaper, installed in a day. A mini-central system (mini merkazi) distributes air to several rooms through ducts hidden in a drywall false ceiling: more discreet and even, but more expensive and longer to install.
Power in “horsepower”
In Israel, AC power is quoted in horsepower (koah sus). It depends on size, orientation, floor and insulation: let the technician calculate it rather than guessing.
Inverter: the better choice
An inverter unit adjusts its power instead of stopping and restarting: it uses less electricity and heats better in winter.
Servicing and gas refill
Clean the filters every season and have the unit serviced in spring. As a guide, a gas refill for a 2.5 HP split cost about ₪590 on average in July 2025 (Midrag). An AC that keeps losing gas has a leak to fix.
Electrics first
Before adding a powerful unit, have an electrician check that your circuit and supply capacity are sufficient.
Plan ahead
From May to September technicians are swamped. A request made in spring gets more answers and shorter lead times.
